The 2011 CBBG Tidal Twinings Retreat was great!
22nd Annual Tidal Twinings Fall Retreat
October 19-23, 2011
Camp Magruder, Rockaway, Oregon
Retreat Raffle Baskets
This year at the retreat we are again hoping that we will have several donated baskets from our members for our raffle.
Donations may be made at any time until Saturday, October 22nd, 2011. Please contact Coleen to donate or if you have any questions.
Coleen Bourgeois at 503-848-7033 or coleen.bourgeois@transcore.com.
Tickets will be available for purchase at Retreat for $1 each or 6 for $5. These can be used for any of the baskets up for raffle.
Retreat Bag/Silent/Oral Auction Donations
Are you cleaning out your closets? Garage? Sheds, etc? Please think about donating any basket related and/or craft related items to the auctions or bag raffles. Your trash is someone else’s treasure! All proceeds help to offset the costs of the retreat.
If you would like to donate but will not be attending the Retreat, contact Coleen and we can make arrangements to take your items over for you.
Goodie Bags
Members look forward to receiving their goodie bags upon arrival at Retreat and we are always looking for items to put into the bags. If you have any items in quantity, know where we can get items, or just have a good idea of what to put in the bags, please let Kate at CBBGRetreat@gmail.com or 360-666-2666.
Retreat Volunteers Needed
This year we have some out-of-towners who are flying into Portland and are looking for someone who can pick them up at the airport, take them to Retreat, and return them back to the airport. Please let Kate know if you would be willing to help with this and we will soon have additional info regarding dates, times, etc.
Since we have attendees who will be flying and can’t bring their own bedding, we are also looking for someone who can bring bedding and towels for four people. Please respond to Kate at CBBGRetreat@gmail.com or 360-666-2666 if you can help with either of these requests.
Columbia Basin Basketry Guild presents the
22nd Annual Tidal Twinings Fall Retreat
October 19-23, 2011
Camp Magruder, Rockaway, Oregon
About the Retreat
The Tidal Twinings Fall Retreat is 5 days of weaving, classes, activities and good conversation with friends devoted to the art of basket making. Make the time as action packed or as relaxing as you want it to be.
We are still back at Camp Magruder
Camp Magruder, located off Hwy 101 in Rockaway, OR, is in a beautiful location with trails to the beach. The comfortable, remodeled buildings will have even better lighting available. A new, professionally trained chef rules over the remodeled kitchen. And those plastic mattress covers are now nylon.
Registration
Registration is open to everyone age 16 and over. Those who are not members of the CBBG or the NW Basket Weavers Guild pay a membership fee of $25 for 2011 at registration. Meals are provided as part of the registration fee, beginning with dinner on Wednesday evening and ending with breakfast on Sunday.
Featured Teacher
Pat Courtney Gold, a member of the Wasco Nation, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, and a nationally known Native American artist, will teach two classes and give a talk on her 2009 Fellowship to the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, where her project was to weave SW with NW fibers. She will also discuss her visits to the many galleries, and the rare opportunities to visit Pueblo Feasts and Dances. Pat and her sister worked with Mary Schlick and Wasco elders to help revive the Wasco technique of full-turn twining. Pat has traveled nationally to study sally bags, their designs, and the plant materials used in the baskets. Pat does traditional Wasco weaving and enjoys experimenting with many fibers to create her contemporary works. Her work is in museum collections throughout the United States.
See Pat’s page at Craft in America : (http://www.craftinamerica.org/artists_fiber/story_116.php?).
What’s New: We’re doing the basket raffle again and adding a live auction to the silent auction and bag raffle.
Auctions – Bigger and Better this Year
Please consider donating one of your baskets to the auctions (we’ll place it for you in either the basket raffle or auction). Everyone please bring weaving materials, books, started projects, etc. for the bag and silent auctions as well. Sponsors also donate items, so there will be plenty of things you will want to take home with you. All proceeds help to offset the costs of the retreat. Raffle tickets will be sold at the retreat.
Exhibit
This year’s theme is “Woven - Wild & Wonderful”. Bring up to 3 baskets for entry into the exhibit. Beginning weavers are encouraged to enter their work, and class baskets are welcome.
Housing: Choose Deluxe or Standard. A description of each cabin’s facilities is on the registration sheet.
Open Weaving will be in Sherlock, where the raffles, auctions and lecture will be held as well.
Marketplace: Members may sell items throughout the retreat and will need to bring their own display table.
Yoga: Carol Horvath will provide yoga instruction in the morning before breakfast. Bring your yoga gear!
