Tidal Twinings
2005 Retreat
September 14-18, 2005

About the 2005 Retreat (September 14-18)
The Tidal Twinings Fall Retreat is 5 days of weaving, instruction, activities and good conversation with friends devoted to the art of basketmaking. Camp Magruder, on the Oregon Coast, is a beautiful, relaxing setting that can be as action-packed or as relaxing as you want it to be.

Registration
Registrations are open to everyone age 16 and over. Those who are not members of the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild or the Northwest Basket Weavers Guild pay a $20 premium on the registration fee. Meals are provided as part of the registration fee, beginning Thursday morning and ending with breakfast on Sunday. Look on the registration form for additional information. First Time Teachers
We are proud to offer classes by 13 different instructors. Four of these instructors from outside the Pacific Northwest will be teaching at the retreat for the first time. Judith Olney, from Massachusetts, is a nationally known basket instructor. Lyn Syler from North Carolina has taught basketry for many years and has published several books on basketmaking. Mary Pryor from Southern California has specialized in gourd art for many years. Lynne Everett is a contemporary basket weaver and teacher from San Juan Capistrano, CA. This is a great opportunity to take classes from these instructors without having to travel far from home. Also teaching at the retreat for the first time are Therese Fisher and Estelle Mazurkiewicz; in response to your many requests, they are offering two beading classes.

Class offerings
New this year, we are offering full classes on Wednesday evening and on Sunday morning. Make note of the days of class, as there are 4 classes that are 2-day classes. Classes are offered at various skill levels. Materials fees are listed with the class descriptions and are paid to the instructor at the beginning of class. Click here for more information.

Activities

  • Bag Raffles – Participants donate weaving materials, books, or anything of interest, and everyone gets the chance to bring them home by participating in the bag raffles. Folks buy tickets, then put tickets in the bag corresponding to the item they want. The winner is then drawn at random. There will be 2 bag raffles, one on Thursday evening and one on Friday evening.
  • Oral Action – Those items of the most interest, donated by participants and sponsors, will be auctioned off in a live oral auction on Saturday night. All proceeds help to offset the costs of the retreat.
  • Exhibit This year’s exhibit theme is “Hundreds of Handles”. Use any materials or techniques you would like to interpret the theme. Bring up to three baskets with you for entry into the exhibit. Click here for information on this year's theme.
  • Evening Presentation – On Friday night, Judith Olney will give a presentation of the amazing works she has contributed to the field of basketmaking.
  • Raffle Basket by Donna Carlson Each year we raffle off a basket by one of our distinguished guild members. This year’s basket is by Donna Carlson. The winning ticket will be drawn on Saturday night after the auction. Though we’d love to have you with us, you don’t need to be present to win the basket. Click here for more information on the basket and how you can win it!
