Learn to Skein Willow & Begin A Skeined Willow Basket
Dates: Saturday and Sunday, February 27 & 28
Time: 9am –5pm both days (includes ½ hour lunch break)
Place: Multnomah Art

Class fee: $75.00
Material fee: $35.00
This fee will be collected at the beginning of class and your check should
be made payable to Margaret Mathewson. (Margaret will bring extra willow, which
may be purchased separately, in addition to the class material fee.) Workshop
Description:
Learn to slit willow wands into three parts and remove their inner core, learning Native American and European methods. Then peel and trim the willow to the desired thickness and remove the skin. Traditionally willow is stored for an entire year before using. For the basket, we will use cured year old willow that Margaret will bring. Choose a one rod coiled start or a small twill twined start.Both are traditional from Eastern California and the Great Basin. You may do the final trim on your own materials or use my pre-trimmed skeins.
Tools to Bring - Locking or sheath knife, clippers.
