Description: Maria Bullock was born and raised in Poland, surrounded by baskets commonly used in everyday life. After moving to the United States, she missed the feel of a basket in her hands.
She first studied and apprenticed with Katherine Lewis, and then continued her willow basketry education during multiple trips to Europe, where she spent time with many master weavers.
Maria now enjoys teaching workshops and private lessons in her new 7-month apprenticeship program in Washington State on Orcas Island, where she resides on a multiple family permaculture homestead.
She works on many different basket sizes and styles, as well as larger sculptural creations. Maria will be one of the instructors teaching at Willow Fest Northwest this year.
Maria will share a slide show presentation that walks us through the different work she does with willow across the seasons. She'll start with winter harvest, spring garden structures, summer weaving and end with fall holiday projects. She will also talk about how she started her basketry journey that brought her to where she is today.
