Description: Do you love the smell of willow bark? Do you enjoy working with composition and pattern? Would you like to try weaving over a form? If you answered yes, then be sure to register for this workshop! In this class we will be working with willow bark and iris leaves to create this sweet stunner of a basket. We will be weaving a twill base, twining, plaiting and using a 2/2 twill to create this basket. We will work with a form to achieve the shape and dimensions of the basket. We will also discuss how to grow, harvest and process the plants. Project Size: 6” x 2.5” x 2.5”
You do not need to have any experience. However, we will be working with 3 different patterns, so if you are a first-time or beginning weaver, plan on the project being challenging. This is a slightly more intermediate class because of the form and the patterns. All levels are welcome, however.
Supplies needed: Packing tool, spray bottle, optional large eye needle.
Instructor Bio: Rose Covert is an Oregon-based fiber artist who uses natural materials to weave sculptural forms. She has been a member and board member of the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild since 2010 and uses techniques she learned through her involvement with them to develop the style of weaving she now works in. Rose hand harvests and processes all of her materials, which creates a deep connection to the fibers she uses in her work.
