Join us for an evening of sharing with two of the Pacific Northwest’s most experienced and talented plant fiber artists. They have worked on projects together throughout the years and are excited to come together again to meet with CBBG and pass along some of what they have learned about natural fibers.
Melinda West has been practicing the art of plant-fiber weaving since 1985. The Indianola artist has studied with many Native and non-Native weavers and artists, the foremost being her long-time friend Ed Carriere of the Suquamish Tribe. Her inspiration comes from the Northwest landscapes and the Coast Salish peoples, whose cultures embrace the rich traditions of natural fiber use, knowledge in the land, and artistic skills development in all aspects of life. Her award-winning art is on display in public and private collections around the world.

Margaret (Pegg) Mathewson has been weaving for 45 years in a variety of world-wide techniques, ancient and contemporary. Beginning in Central California in the 1980s, they have worked in weaving guilds and galleries as well as in museums, universities, and tribal organizations. Several branches of work include the technical analyses, histories, botanies, and ecological and social networks of traditional fiber arts. But 'making' is always the main goal, along with passing on the knowledge to where it needs to go. Their own work is a mix of ancient and contemporary, and focuses on natural materials.
The Zoom meeting UR will be sent to all members.
