March Zoom-In, Day 1: Introduction to Mad Weave & Cathead Basket with Chevrons

On the first day of our March Zoom-In 2026 event, we will be offering the choice of two classes: Introduction to Mad Weave and Cathead Basket with Chevrons. Please note, you may only take one of these two classes; the timeline of them overlaps. Zoom-In classes are open to both Guild members and non-members. Scroll down to see more information about these two classes, and to register.

Introduction to Mad Weave
$73.00

Date and time: Tuesday, March 24, 2026. 8:30am - 3:30pm PST

Location: Online via Zoom; registrants will be sent a link via email prior to the class.

Cost: $73 (includes: $48 class fee, $25 materials fee, & shipping)

Number of students: 12

Instructor: Debbie McClelland

Student skill level: Beginning

Tools needed for class: Scissors, pencil, needle, ruler. Large-eye tapestry needle is optional.

Description: Mad weave is a triaxial weave, going in three directions. Depending on color placement, quite different patterns appear. In this workshop you will learn the basic structure of this weave, and then, using a variety of colored paper strips, you will learn how to make stars, blocks, spots, and pinwheels. The resulting structures can be used for cards, framed, turned into mats, or folded into baskets.

Please note: We will not weave a basket in this class. Your finished piece will be a flat 6-inch diameter mat.

We strongly encourage you to have a second (smartphone) camera over your workspace for demonstration, questions, and problem solving. This greatly aids the instructor, as well as helping you. Click here to see a DIY camera stand tutorial.

Register online by clicking “add to cart” below, and filling out any pop-up forms.

The last day to register or to get a refund is Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

If the class fills, and you would like to be put on the wait list, email ColumbiaBasinBasketryGuild@gmail.com before February 10, 2026.
