May General Meeting: Sustained Crafting: Preventing Repetitive Strain Injury & Creating Comfort, Longevity, & Wellness in each Project

Date and time: Thursday, May 21, 2026. 6:30 -8:30pm PDT

Location: Online via Zoom

Cost: Free. All Guild members will receive a link via email prior to the meeting.

Description: Repetitive stress injuries are common among basket weavers and fiber artists due to sustained grip, posture, and repetitive movement patterns. In this practical, hands-on workshop, Nick Medlock, a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach, will guide us through simple, effective strategies to protect our hands, wrists, and entire body while continuing to enjoy our craft.

We’ll learn how to recognize early warning signs of strain, improve posture, and use targeted mobility and corrective exercises to reduce pain and prevent injury. The session also introduces nerve flossing techniques to improve nerve health, along with methods to keep our fascia hydrated and resilient.

In addition, we’ll gain a simple framework for building a weekly resistance and mobility routine to support long-term strength, circulation, and overall wellness.

This 45-minute session includes guided movement practice and concludes with time for questions, leaving us with practical tools we each can immediately apply to keep our craft sustainable for years to come.
