Diane Shingledecker

Artist Bio:

I am a basketry artisan who lives in Portland, Oregon. I have been weaving baskets for over 15 years. I recently took early retirement from my work in higher education to pursue weaving on a larger scale. I am an active member of Columbia Basin Basketry Guild where I teach beginning basketry classes combining my 18+ years of teaching experience with my passion for weaving. In addition to teaching, I hone my craft by participating in advanced classes taught by nationally recognized basket weavers through the CBBG guild. I also collaborate with local acrylics artist, Liz Walker, incorporating Liz’s painted paper into my weaving.

My work is regularly on display at the Village Gallery of Arts (VGA) in Cedar Mill, OR where I am an active member – both teaching basket weaving and coordinating the gallery’s Art Kits Grant which provides art materials to children & teens through non-profit organizations in Oregon.

My work has also been shown at the Multnomah Arts Center, the Hillsboro Summer Library Exhibit – Brookwood Branch, Beaverton City Hall, Lincoln City Cultural Center, and the Latimer Quilt Museum. I demo my basketry craft yearly during Washington County Open Studios in October at VGA.
