Member Grants and Scholarships

Grants help our members grow and share new skills

The goal of the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild (CBBG) is to promote the study of basketry and to preserve the traditions of basketry; the CBBG has set aside certain monies for grants, for members who wish to engage in activities that help accomplish this purpose.

Grants are available to anyone who has been a member in good standing of the CBBG for one year. Only one grant every three years will be awarded to any one individual. However, if no application is received in any one year, the application of a previous awardee may be considered by the Grant Committee.

The Guild awards grants to members in order to supplement fees for: basketry conferences, research projects, attendance at lectures, retreats, workshops, and travel and/or study programs costs up to $500 per event.  In return the Guild asks for the grantee to provide a program or workshop to share their new knowledge with other members.

Application Procedure:

1. A completed grant application should be submitted to the Grant committee at ColumbiaBasinBasketryGuild@gmail.com. Applications are accepted year-round, on a rolling basis. Click here to view and download the application.

2. A proposed budget for expenditure of award funds should be submitted with the application, and is made a part of the application.

3. Examples of such expenditures may include, but are not limited to: tuition, cost of materials, fees, travel, conference or participant registrations, per diem costs, and requirements for research or related projects. Be as specific as possible.

4. Expenses specifically excluded are expenses of teachers of workshops, and teaching at conferences/conventions.

Evaluation Criteria: The Grant Committee will give priority to grant applications whose information and/or results will be of greatest value to the Guild, as well as to the individual Guild member. The selection and amount of funding awarded to each grant will be determined by the Grant Committee, and approved by the Board of Directors.

Scholarships encourage member participation

The Guild also has two scholarship programs to help make basketry more accessible to our members, especially those with limited means:

You Deserve Credit! Lottery for Guild Volunteers
All Guild volunteers, especially those who would most benefit from this financial support, are invited to submit their names for a blind drawing. Credits can be used for any services, supplies, and tools sold by the Guild, including workshops and class fees.

Tidal Twinings Retreat Scholarship
The Guild offers, via lottery, a substantial credit toward the cost of attending the annual Tidal Twinings Retreat. While all Guild members are eligible for this drawing, we especially encourage those with more limited means to take advantage of this program.
