Delightful classes, expert instructors, and an opportunity to weave in the great outdoors: That’s Basket Day 2026! We have five classes to choose from. You can take one in the morning, one in the afternoon. There’s an hour for lunch in between, plus opportunities to prepare cedar bark and learn about preparing other natural materials.
Basket Day is a special treat for CBBG members only. The Guild pays the class fee and students pay only the material fee (due when you register).
Most classes will be held at Mary S. Young Park in West Linn, Oregon. One will be in King City, OR. All classes are appropriate for all skill levels.
Bring your own: water bottle and snacks/lunch. Dress for the weather.
Class length: All classes are 3 hours with a lunch hour 12pm-1pm. During the lunch hour seasoned weavers will be available to discuss and demonstrate preparation of various natural materials. Cedar Preparation is available on a drop-in basis (10 am-2 pm).
Basket Day Bonuses
In addition to class offerings, the Guild library will be available as well as a treasure table of materials and tools left over from various projects and classes.
Not taking a class? You can still enjoy Basket Day—just bring a basketry project you’re working on and join the fun of weaving in a beautiful outdoor environment.
Learn to Prepare Cedar for Weaving: The station will be available for several hours mid-morning to early afternoon. If you are new to getting cedar ready to weave, instruction and help will be available. Be sure to soak large pieces of Cedar (just off the tree) for a day or two until they are soft. Large soaking tubs will be available.
Tools and materials: There will be several Jerry stripper cutters in different sizes available for all.
Bring your own cedar and brown paper bags for the different sizes you cut.

Description:Invasive plants are such amazing weavers! In this class we will begin by stripping the leaves off of the English ivy. We will talk about where, when, and how to process ivy. We’ll be using the slath technique, which is used in willow basketry, to start our base then begin twining around it. We will use a mixture of twining and triple twining to weave the remainder of the basket, finishing with a rim of your choice. These baskets will be a variety of sizes and shapes; you can go quite large with ivy or keep it small. We will also cover how to shape the basket so that you get the size and shape you desire.
